Honors English (EN111)

This Honors English class will model the pacing and assignments of a freshman college composition course along with providing an overview of literature.*

The emphasis of different models of writing will include essays such as:

  • descriptive
  • memoir
  • proposal
  • persuasive essays

Writing as a craft will include:

  • writer's workshop
  • language usage
  • research (including a formal research paper)

Students will study major literary movements, writing techniques, presentation techniques, and research methods to prepare for college freshman level courses.

There will be summer coursework which will be an essential to the course. There will be outside reading and writing for this course and students will be expected to complete work on time and with high degree effort.

Students will be enrolled in EN111 (College Composition I) and can earn 4 credits through Northern Michigan University for the second semester.

*Students may need to purchase books and materials. This course follows NMU's attendance policy and schedule: missing class more than 5 times during the semester will result in a lowered grade (as per NMU policies).

  • "B" average or higher
  • teacher recommendation
  • 3.0 GPA

Required?: Fills requirement of 1 year of English out of 4

Credit: Earns 4 college credit in second semester of school year
